WILLIAM MORRIS Obituary

William Morris, 95, of New Haven passed away peacefully on June 12, 2017 in the St. Raphael’s Campus of Yale New Haven Hospital surrounded by his family. He was married to his devoted wife, Joy Hara Morris for 58 years. Mr. Morris was born in New Haven Aug. 2, 1921, son of the late John N. and Annie Morris. Among his relatives, he was regarded as everyone’s favorite. He was a member of St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church. He served proudly in the US Army Air Corps. as a Tech. Sergeant with the 23rd Bombardment Squadron during World War II and saw extensive action in the Asiatic Pacific War Theatre. In the latter stages of the war, he was forced to bail out of the B-24 Bomber to which he was assigned and was rescued from the Pacific Ocean wet, ragged and ruffled by members of the submarine U.S.S Corbia. He was awarded several medals and citations for his service.

Besides his wife, Mr. Morris is survived by three daughters, Melinda (Christopher) Myer of Yardley, PA., Dr. Artemis Morris (Emmanuel Sergentakis) of Woodbridge and Vassiliki (Mavid) Khonsari of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Sophia Mitchell of West Haven and Christine Trikas of New York; 6 grandchildren, Kathryn, Madelyn, Masoume, Kleio, Andrew and Rheia. He was predeceased by a brother, Nicholas Morris and two sisters, Sylvia Pappas and Helen Morris.

Friends are invited to attend funeral services in St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Road, Orange Thursday morning at 11:30. Friends may pay their respects prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:30. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Barbara Church Building Fund.
