Virginia D. (D'Addio) Smith Obituary

Virginia D. Smith died on October 28, 2024, 2 weeks after her 98th birthday.  She was a long time resident of Woodbridge, and spent her last years at the Hamden Rehabilitation Center.

“Virg” or “Virgie” was born on October 10, 1926 in New Haven to William and Alvira (Alice) D’Addio. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased my her sister Charlotte Nuzzolillo, her brothers Ralph and William D’Addio Jr., and the love of her life, Alfred Smith, Sr.. She is survived by her children: Alfred (Adrienne Micci-Smith) Smith Jr, David (Kim) Smith and Carol (Edward) Nolan; her grandchildren Alexandra (Dan McNelis) Micci-Smith, Dante Micci-Smith, Olivia (Kevin Cassidy) Micci-Smith, David (Kristin Losi) Smith Jr , Kelsey (Matt Duplinsky) Smith, Edward (Toni Luciani) Nolan, Jr. and Thomas (Alexa Oddo) Nolan; her great grandchildren: David Smith III, Daxton Smith, Kallen Smith and James McNelis; many loving nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

She and “Big Al” were married 75 years ago, and made their home in Woodbridge. They each worked for the Woodbridge Police Department for over 30 years- he as a patrolman and she as a dispatcher- answering phones and radio calls out of her their kitchen. After retiring, she worked for many years as Office Manager for the M. Krevit Real Estate Company.

She was a devoted member of the Our Lady of the Assumption parish in Woodbridge. Virginia served the parish as a long-time Lector at the Litchfield Turnpike “Mother” Church, and as a Eucharistic Minister visiting parishioners confined to their homes.

Her family wishes to thank Virginia’s care-givers at Hamden Health Care and Compassus, especially Liz, Steve, Heather and Grace.

Visiting hours will be Monday November 4th from 4-7 pm at the Celentano  Funeral Home, 424 Elm St., New Haven. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Tuesday November 5th at Our Lady of the Assumption at 81 Center Road, Woodbridge.
