Battalion Chief Thomas R. Gould, NHFD (ret), 77 of State Street, Hamden passed away on Dec. 19, 2018 at his home. He was the husband of the late Barbara Papa Gould. Chief Gould was born in New Haven on March 18, 1941, son of the late retired Assistant Chief William F. Gould (NHFD) and Margaret Malley Gould. He was appointed to the Fire Dept. in 1964 and retired with the rank of Battalion Chief in 2000.During his career he shared in many Unit Citations. In 1999, he was honored as Firefighter of the Year by Box 22 Associates. He proudly served in the US Army for two years prior to the Viet Nam Era. He is survived by two sons, Thomas R. (Nadine) Gould and Retired Deputy Chief William F. Gould, (NHFD)., both of Hamden; three brothers, William T. (Pauline) Gould of Madison, John Gould of Hamden and Edward Gould of Florida; and 11 grandchildren, Thomas III, Aedan, Bailey, Jacob, G.G., Cami, Liam, Roxy, Terrence, Maggie & Katie. He will be fondly remembered by his friends at River House in North Haven and Weed’s in Hamden. He was predeceased by one brother, Francis Gould. Friends may call at The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St (cor. Dwight) New Haven Sunday from 3 to 7 pm and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mt.Carmel Church, 2819 Whitney Ave., Hamden Monday morning at 9:30. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery
