Sister Mary Alice Ososkie, 93, died at St.Mary’s Home in West Hartford, CT, on Wednesday October 9, 2024. She was born on August 29, 1931, in Wyandotte, MI, the daughter of Sylvester and Catherine Ososkie. She was one of four children. For many years she wanted to become a sister, and she entered the Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monroe, MI.  After 10 months she had to leave due to her frail health. She had contracted TB some years before. She then worked in a bank for a few years. When she heard of the Congregation of the Benedictines of Jesus Crucified in Devon, PA, who accept women with frail physical health, she contacted them. After a visit and retreat, she was accepted and entered the community on October 30, 1958. Sister made her First Profession on May 31, 1961, and her Perpetual Profession five years later. Early in her years as a Junior Professed Sister, she was asked to train to be the community’s nurse, so she studied at St. Agnes School of Nursing in Baltimore, MD.  Later she went to France for a few months. This stay turned into quite a few years during which she served as a nurse in the dispensary operated by the Sisters at our Motherhouse, and as Prioress in several of our French communities. She later returned to the US and was among the Sisters from Regina Mundi Priory in Devon, PA, who moved to the Monastery of the Glorious Cross, Branford, CT, in 2001. She continued to serve there until November of 2023, when a bad fall caused a worsening of health which eventually led to her death. She was predeceased by her parents, two sisters and numerous Sisters in her community. She is survived by her brother Robert, her niece Julianne and numerous nieces and nephews, and her Sisters in community.  Funeral will be celebrated on Wednesday Oct. 16, 11 AM at St. John Bosco Parish, in St. Mary Church, Branford, CT.  A viewing in church will precede the Mass from 10:30-11:00. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Benedictines of Jesus Crucified, 2021 Albany Ave., c/o #456, West Hartford, CT.
