Silvia J. (Dritsas) Rambus Obituary

It is with great sadness, we share news of the peaceful passing of Silvia J. Rambus on October 24, 2025. On July 20, 1933, Silvia was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan by her loving parents, Basil D. and Aspasia B. Dritsas. She was the middle child of three, with an older brother, James B. (deceased) and younger sister, Catherine, both who became attorneys; Catherine still practices law. Silvia graduated from Cooley High School in 1951. For several years, she worked as a legal secretary for her father, the first Greek-born immigrant to practice law in the City of Detroit. Silvia married Michael Rambus (deceased) in 1956 and they moved to Farmington Hills, Michigan where they lived in the same home until 2016. She and Michael spent their remaining years in Connecticut, although her heart remained in Detroit (a devoted Lions fan to the end!). As a loving wife and mother, she devoted her life to her family and to raising her five children. She imparted many valuable lessons through modeling. She sewed her children’s clothes and helped them learn to sew and appreciate fashion; she always cooked, oftentimes gourmet meals, and taught them to cook and cherish healthy food; she was active as a walker before walking became trendy, an avid golfer, and an enthusiastic racquetball player, and bestowed a love of physical activity to her children. She loved to travel and did so with her nuclear family and the family they created. She enjoyed traveling to familiar places throughout Michigan and loved beaches, especially Cape Cod where many memorable summers were spent. She also enjoyed traveling to new and exciting places, nationally and internationally, and passed on the travel bug to her children and grandchildren. Silvia was proud of her Greek heritage. She spoke Greek with family members, and at times did so when she did not want others to understand what she was saying. She prepared authentic Greek food, attended church when she was able, adhered to Greek traditions, and visited her parents’ villages in Greece several times, once with her family when her children were young and again in later years with her daughter Carolyn and her family. Silvia was an accomplished artist and displayed many of her watercolor and pen and ink drawings around their home. She delighted in singing, playing piano, and listening to music, especially 40s and 50s female jazz singers, big band, instrumentals, and soft rock. She found joy in playing golf with her sister, sister-in-law, brother, and husband, and often traveled to Florida to play golf with close friends. Silvia also enjoyed participating in a gourmet dinner group in which she traveled with her husband and friends to different cities to try top-rated restaurants. Silvia was skillful with words, took pride in her knowledge of grammar, and liked crossword puzzles, Scrabble, and other word games. Though she imparted many valuable lessons to her children, she never prepared them for a world without her in their daily lives. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. Her legacy includes her five treasured children: Emili (Tay Bosley), Erica, Elizabeth (Dan Green), Carolyn (Shawn Cowper), and Michael (Samantha); her eight grandchildren: Nickolas, Erika, Gretchen, Nathaniel, Benjamin, Emma, Bryson and Aris; her sister, Catherine Dritsas (Paula Cairo); her five nieces and nephews: William, Jane, David, Susan, and Elizabeth; and her cousin, Molly. Silvia was blessed to be surrounded by amazing and loving caregivers, Dathleen, Shandee, Diann (and Stanley), Candace, Kellen (and Evelyn), Sunny, Tonya, and Sherry, whom she regarded as family. Her daughter Carolyn, a physician, orchestrated the most compassionate and comprehensive care any mother could have hoped for.
