Sister Mary Xavier Donovan, OSB, of the Benedictines of Jesus Crucified of the Monastery of the Glorious Cross, 61 Burban Drive, Branford, passed away Oct. 16, 2017 in St Mary Home, West Hartford. Born in South Boston, MA Sept. 2, 1930, Sister was the daughter of the late John and Annie Whelton Donovan. She entered the religious order Nov. 1, 1956; made her first profession Nov. 1, 1959 and her perpetual profession Nov. 1, 1962 at Regina Mundi Priory, Devon, Pa. She was a member of the community at St. Paul’s Priory in Newport, R.I. before coming to Branford. She is survived by her sister in law, Barbara Donovan; and her beloved nieces & nephews, Gregg and Gary Donovan, Janet Donovan Pratt and Patti Paliwoda. She was predeceased by two brothers, John and Andrew Donovan and two sisters, Mary Watson and Ellen Norton.
Friends may call at the Monastery of the Glorious Cross, 61 Burban Drive, Branford Thursday (TODAY) from 4 to 8 pm and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in the Monastery Chapel Friday morning at 11:00. Interment in St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monastery of the Glorious Cross.
