Sophie Morris Mitchell, a lifelong resident of New Haven before moving to West Haven passed away peacefully December 27, 2020. She was the widow of George Mitchell. Sophie was born in New Haven a daughter of the late John N and Annie Marnerakis Morris. Before her retirement she worked in the accounting and controller department for SNET. Sophie was a member of Holy Trinity and St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Churches, and was also a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society and the Daughters of Penelope. She is survived by her daughters Mary Ann (late Angelo) Angelopoulos and Helen (Constantine) Proestakis; grandchildren Stavroula Proestakis, Sophia (Andre) Proestakis Panagos, Athanasios and Georgia Angelopoulos; great grandchildren, Marilia and Elina Panagos and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mitchell was predeceased by her brothers, Nicholas and William Morris and her sisters, Helen Morris, Sylvia Pappas, and Christine Trikas.
A private funeral service will take place in St Barbara Greek Orthodox Church. Interment will follow with her husband in Beaverdale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Rd., Orange, CT 06477.
