Pearl Eleanor Chappell Harris, affectionately referred to as “Pie” by her family, was born April 8, 1930, to Stella and Milton Ellis in New Haven, CT. She passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024 at the University of Maryland, St., Joseph Medical Center in Towson, MD.
Her formal education began at Troup Elementary School and Hillhouse High School. She pursued studies in nursing and was accepted into Grace New Haven Hospital Nursing School earning an RN degree. After graduating she was assigned to the maternity ward assisting in the delivery of countless babies until she retired.
Pearl met and married Felix Chappell of Halifax, VA and later married William “Billy” Harris of New Haven. From these unions she had seven children Patricia, Darea, Kevin, Maurice, Tamara, Felix Jr., and Michael.
She was baptized at St. Martin de Porres Church and received Christ at an early age. Pearl raised a loving Catholic home where devotion to family and a strong work ethic was passed to her children.
Besides her mother and father , Pearl was predeceased in death by her husbands Felix Chappell and William Harris her sister Olive, brother Milton Ellis, children Kevin Chappell, Tamara Chappell-Becton, Michael Harris and several grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memory daughters, Sr. Patricia Chappell SND and Darea Chappell ; sons Maurice Harris (Roberta), Felix Chappell as well as 13 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. She will be missed but remembered with an abundance of love.
There will be a viewing in St. Martin de Porres Church Thursday morning Dec. 19th from 10 - 11 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
