Pauline Catherine Morris (Bunny) entered this life at Grace New Haven Hospital on September 24, 1932. She was the first born to parents Paul C. Morris (who originated from the Republic of Cabo Verde) and Helen Foreman, born in North Carolina. She was very proud of her Cabo Verde heritage and did dream to one day travel to his place of birth. She did however experience its rich culture by growing up in New Haven, CT. The city of New Haven did embrace and was blessed with a vibrant Cabo Verde community giving her the opportunity to explore the culture in its authenticity. As a young woman Pauline found fufillment and great joy by working in the maternity ward at Grace New Haven Hospital. This experience, although brief, was memorable and referred by her as one of the best experiences of her young adult life.
Pauline was the eldest of five siblings, her brother the late Edward Morris, sister the late Margaret Galberth, sister Geraldine Williams and brother Fulgence Morris. Bun, (nickname given to her by her husband) enjoyed 52 years of marriage to the love of her life, Fire Chief Earl D. Geyer Sr. They were married at St. Martin de Porres Church January 26, 1950 and were lucky enough to experience a golden anniversary celebration. She said it rained the day they married and this meant a long and happy marriage.
We are convinced she spoke with wisdom.
Earl was her childhood sweetheart and they lived a full and happy life together. They were a compatible cohesive unit whose faith was without boundaries. They chose to love, support, and care for each other throughout the peaks and valleys of everyday life. They held the secret on how to raise a good strong family routed in faith and mastered the art of decision making without issue.
Pauline and Earl were blessed with four lovely children, Sharlene (Sherry) Geyer, Earl D. (Danny) Geyer Jr. She was predeceased bu her daughters Denise Geyer Williams and Alexis Geyer. She was a wonderful mother who was able to look past fault and accept her children as individual beings. Her pride and joy, her grandchildren were soon to follow. The late Nicole Milisits, Earl Geyer III (Guy), Tyler Yanosy, Medina Geyer, and Sydney Wieckowski. Nawni, as they affectionately called her, was not only a grandmother but a great grandmother to Kylin, Ava, and Ana Milisits. She always looked forward to attending recitals, concerts, sporting events, plays any/all of the performances her children/grandchidren participated in and was quick to comment how only HER family was the best. Pauline was an active member of St. Martin De Porres Church. She grew up in a Catholic community and was the first graduating Holy Communion class of St. Martin De Porres Church. She was a member of the gospel choir for more than thirty years and enjoyed singing with daughters Denise and Alexis in the choir. The choir was often invited to sing at various churches, community centers and special holiday events. She was a participating choir member for the opening ceremonies at the 1995 Special Olympics, one of the highlighted performances for the choir.
Pauline and Earl experienced a life of abundance and riches, always eager to explore new places together. They had a fondness for traveling to Las Vegas withn friends Dicky and Leona Williams and would spend the nights attending shows and sampling fine cuisine.
Pauline and Earl were famiy oriented people who understood the importance of balancing work and play. As a family they provided the maintenance service for St. Martin De Porres School from 1968 until its closing. She loved spending family time at the local beaches, going to parades, attending drum corps shows and Cabo Verdean events. She was also an avid shopper and would sometimes spend all day with daughter Sherry shopping.
Pauline loved GOD, family and life but if there was anything that was in direct competition it would be her love of dancing, music, and attending Jai Lai games. When it came to dancing she thought she was Ginger and her husband Earl was Fred (famous dancing duo of the 40's and 50’s). Jai Lai was an integral part of her past time activities. Pauline and Earl, once introduced to attending games byson Danny, took the ball and ran with it. They even met the players and was gifted a prize Cesta for being longtime loyal fans.
A life well lived and loved by all who had the opportunity to meet her. Wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend. Rest in peace our beautiful mother.
Friends and family may call at the Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St., New Haven Sunday from 5-7 PM and are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Martin de Porres Church, Monday at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
