Patricia Ann Carta Obituary

Patricia Ann (Nauny) Carta, 78, of 303 Sea Hill Road, North Branford, passed away suddenly on Aug. 8, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Michael Carta. She was born in New Haven on August 13, 1945, daughter of the late John and Catherine Cerrone Cavuoti. She worked for Local 34 as one of the six organizers after the first contract was signed. At some point the group of six felt they needed a leader and Pat with her tenacious personality and ability to lead was chosen as the first staff director. She worked in this role for over 20 years. After retirement she continued to work for Local 34 taking on multiple projects. One of which was working with YURA (Yale Unions Retirement Association) where she was elected president, a position which she held until her passing. She had an undeniable passion to ensure that working class people received the respect and fair wages and benefits they deserved. She had so much love for her grandchildren and spending time with family. She loved going to baseball games with her grandsons and would stop any player for an autograph. No player was getting past Nauny without a signature. She loved watching movies with her grandson Matthew and spending endless hours together. Her commitment to family reached far beyond what any person is capable of, but somehow, she always came through. Whether it was running back and forth to her grandchildren’s events, picking them up from school or just spending endless hours playing with them. Her love was endless, and her soul was pure. She had many friends who would line up to do anything she needed. She always said if you can count your friends on more than one hand you are blessed, and she knew how very blessed she was by this. Her close bond with Father Timothy Meehan was something she cherished. She loved their talks and would always say how he made her feel at peace afterwards. Her dream was to dance at the upcoming wedding of her grandson Michael to Leah. Nauny with her beloved Papa will be dancing in heaven that day shining all their love on everyone. She was survived by her children Kimberly Hall (Mark), Candace Chapman (Russ), Tracy Thurston (Paul), Eric Carta (Carmela), her beloved grandchildren Michael Hall (Leah), Matthew Hall, Finley Chapman, Joseph Thurston, Jessica Carta as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved sisters Anna Marie Rubino and Carmela Dandio. Friends may call at The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm Street New Haven on Monday Aug. 13th from 5 to 8pm and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernadette Church, 385 Townsend Ave, New Haven Tuesday morning at 10am. She had a great love for dogs and always told us she wanted to go read to the shelter dogs. Donations can be made to Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter in her loving memory.
