Panagiota Zorgias better known as “Yota” 91 of West Haven, CT peacefully passed away late Wednesday evening surrounded by her family.
In 1968, she migrated to the United States with her husband Peter from Greece to New Haven, CT. For many years she worked at the Hospital of Saint Raphael’s Laboratory in New Haven until she retired. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend to all who knew her through her support, wisdom, and love. Yota’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren whom she doted upon. Her homemade traditional Greek dishes and desserts were legendary amongst all who were able to enjoy them. Yota also loved vacationing in Greece during the summer months where she would frequently take day trips with friends. Her hobbies were crocheting, needle point and playing card games. She was a member of the Saint Barbara’s Greek Orthodox Church Ladies Philoptochos Society assisting in the baking process for their yearly events. Yota also had a knack for remembering birthdays, anniversaries and other important dates in her family’s lives, never forgetting to send a card or make a phone call. She is preceded in death by her husband; Peter Zorgias of West Haven, CT and brother; Gus Moriatis of North Haven, CT. She is survived by her sister; Antonia Kattis of North Haven, CT two children; Garifalia Topalis(John) of Riverview,FL and Manolis Zorgias(Efstathia)of West Haven, CT. Four grandchildren; Despina Topalis, Peter Zorgias, Yota Topalis and Panagiota Numa(Matthew) as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed, but will continue to live in our hearts forever.
There will be a service held on Wednesday February 19, 2025 celebrating the life of Panagiota “Yota” Zorgias. Calling hours will be from 9:00-11:00 A.M. at Saint Barbara’s Greek Orthodox Church in Orange, CT followed by the burial at Orange Center Cemetery.
