PAULINE (Varella) TEXEIRA Obituary

Pauline Varella Texeira, 91, of New Haven passed away March 27, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving children. She was the beloved wife of the late Vincent Pina Texeira. Pauline was born in New Haven April 2, 1925, daughter of the late Inocencio Manuel and Florence Miller Varella. She worked as a surgical technician at Yale New Haven Hospital for more than 25 years until her retirement in 1992. Prior to that, she operated 77 Sunset Strip Restaurant on Dixwell Ave. in New Haven for several years. Pauline was a loving and devoted wife and mother and was very proud of her Cape Verdean heritage. She is survived by four sons, Michael (Eileen) Texeira of Ventura, CA., Martin Texeira of New Haven, Lt. Christopher (Phyllis) Texeira, NHFD (ret.) of Cheshire and FF Brian Texeira, NHFD of New Haven; four daughters, Linda Texeira, Cynthia Teixeira and Lisa Texeira (William) Crosby, all of New Haven and Robin Texeira (Michael) Atwater of Hamden; 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers, Manuel Jose, Roger Fernandes and John Vincent Varella; two sisters, Alma Varella Wiggs and Etta Perrault Blue; and a grandson, Dominic Trenier.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Martin dePorres Church, Dixwell Ave. and Webster St., New Haven Saturday morning at 9:30. Wake prior to the Mass from 8:30 to 9:30 am. Should friends desire, contributions may be made to New Haven Boys & Girls Club, 253 Columbus Ave., New Haven 06519; The Community Soup Kitchen, 84 Broadway, New Haven 06511 or the Branford Compassion Club.
