In 1949, Olga emigrated to the United States with her family. As a teenager, her family lived on a farm before moving to New York City. She married her husband and eventually settled in New Haven. She became a U.S. citizen and worked hard, finding employment first with A.C Gilbert and later Southern New England Telephone Co. in New Haven from which she retired in the 1980’s.
She was a lifelong and active member of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, working for the Church pierogi fundraising project for many years. She was also a member of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America, New Haven Chapter 66. She took great pride in her church and was a faithful servant of God her entire life.
Olga’s life revolved around raising her family and she was proud of all of her children’s accomplishments. She was a doting grandmother to her three beloved grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking traditional Ukrainian dishes, especially around the holidays, and was well known for the scarves, afghans and baby blankets she crocheted for family and friends, sewing a special label in each one she gave away, “Made especially for you by Olga Pospolita.”
