Nicholas G. Laggis Obituary

Nicholas G. Laggis (Nick) 81, born in New Haven, CT and residing in Orange, died peacefully on June 11, 2024 in St. Vincent Hospital after a 15 day battle with cancer. Nick was  predeceased by his parents George and Katherine (Tartanis) Laggis  and most recently his brother in law Fred DelPercio. Nick graduated from Hillhouse High School 1961 and was employed at Pegnataro’s and later Stop and Shop. Nick was a self taught accomplished musician playing various instruments and sang in 4 languages. For several years he played in the Greek Connection at Basel’s restaurant and faithfully volunteered at the Odyssey Festival with his cousin George Fanolis and the Kalif Band. Music was his passion and legacy. He also was a part of the Argonats, the Paleia Parea, and the St. Barbara House Band.

   Nick was a devoted member of St Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, and its choir for 60 years, as well as the Sons of Pericles, Ahepa Chapter 98, Goya, Golden Years Club and the Orange Senior Center. He was a devoted brother and is survived by his sister Renee DelPercio, Aunt Helen Tartanis of Vero Beach, FL, and special cousins Harry, George and Verba Fanolis and family as well as the Laggis, Marathas, and Kalogianes cousins. Nick will be deeply missed for his positive outlook on life, his faith in God, devotion to family and friends, and through his beautiful music will always bring a smile to our faces. Nick wanted his legacy to be music. May his memory be eternal.

Funeral services will be held in St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Rd., Orange, CT Monday morning at 11:00 AM. Friends may call at the church prior from 9:30 – 11:00 AM Interment in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Contributions may be made the St. Barbara Church Choir, 480 Racebrook Rd., Orange, CT 06477.
