Mary Agnes Conte, 91, died May 20, 2024. For 61 years, she was the beloved wife of the late Dr. John V. Conte, DDS and together they resided in North Haven for 52+ years before relocating to be closer to family. Mary Agnes was born August 30, 1932, daughter of the late Delbert F. FitzGerald, Sr. and Mary M. (Kaufman) FitzGerald. She graduated from St. Agnes Hospital School of Nursing in 1954 and worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Agnes Hospital and the Hospital of St. Raphael.

Mary Agnes was a founding parishioner of St. Frances Cabrini Church in North Haven and was an active member of the Women’s Club, having served on the Executive Board. She was a member of the Staff Wives of Hospital of St. Raphael and served on its Executive Board. Mary Agnes also was a member of the Dental Auxiliary and served as Vice President and Fundraising Chairman during her tenure. When her daughters were girl scouts, she served as Assistant Girl Scout Leader.

Mary Agnes is survived by her four children, Mary Frances (Michael) Etter; Dr. John V. (Dianne) Conte Jr.; Kathleen Conte (Gregg) Ayres and Theresa (Michael) Lagonigro; her brother Joseph (Mary V.) Fitzgerald; and sister-in-law Mary L. Fitzgerald. She was a loving grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 3 great granddaughters. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, a grand nephew, cousins, and dear friends. She is predeceased by her brothers, Delbert F. FitzGerald, Jr. and Rev. Msgr. John L. FitzGerald.

Friends and family may call at The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven, CT, Monday, June 3rd, from 5 to 7 pm and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 57 Pond Hill Road, North Haven Tuesday, June 4th at noon. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven.
