MARY X. MITCHELL Obituary

Mary X. Mitchell of Hamden passed away peacefully on Sept. 4, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born and educated in Danbury. She married George Mitchell and resided briefly in Yonkers, New York, and before long, returned to New Haven where she and her late husband ran a successful restaurant business. She had a long twenty six year career in the Finance Office in the Sterling Memorial Library at Yale University. She is survived by her daughters, Sylvia and Pauline Mitchell, both of Hamden; one brother, Peter Xenakis of North Haven; a brother in law, Nicholas Koutroumanis; and a nephew, Andrew (Gayle) Koutroumanis, also of North Haven. Besides her husband who died in 2012, she was predeceased by two sisters, Georgia Xenakis and Stella Koutroumanis.


Private funeral services were held in St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Barbara Church Endowment Fund, 480 Racebrook Road, Orange, CT 06477.
