MARIAN R. (ROWLEY) CONDIE Obituary

Marian Rowley Condie, 94, formerly of Lanphiers Cove Road and Cedar St., Branford passed away peacefully Nov. 2, 2017 in The Connecticut Hospice, Branford. She was the widow of James G. Condie. Mrs. Condie was born in New Haven May 23, 1923, daughter of the late Herbert W. and Marian Lamb Rowley. She graduated from East Haven High School, Class of 1941. She was a member of Old Stone Church for more than 80 years and was currently the oldest living member. She taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir for more than 50 years, and volunteered at the Thrift store and for many church functions for which she baked her popular date nut bread. She worked for many years in the East Haven Town Clerk’s Office until her retirement in 1986. It was there that she met her husband to whom she was married for 53 years. Her husband was a member of the Staff at the Celentano Funeral Home for more than 50 years. Marian was a terrific cook whose family and holiday meals were always welcomed and appreciated. She enjoyed family vacations to many places including Florida, Vermont, Ireland, Scotland and the Caribbean. Her recent favorite pastimes included playing pinochle with friends and following UCONN basketball, both men and women. Marian was a loving wife, mother, sister and close friend to many. She will be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by one son, David J. (Susan) Condie of Wallingford; three daughters, Diane (Eric) Malchodi of Bloomington, IL., Margaret (Kevin) Casey of San Antonio, TX. and Linda (Michael) Laucella of North Branford; one sister, Phylis Johnson of Branford; her grandchildren, Kathleen Estep, Kevin Casey Jr., William and Erica Malchodi and Kelsey Laucella; and her newborn great granddaughter, Emily Ann Estep. She was predeceased by two brothers, Donald and Robert Rowley.

Friends may call at The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven Sunday from 4 to 6 pm and are invited to attend funeral services at Old Stone Church, East Haven Monday at 10:30 am. Interment in East Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The CT. Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
