JOHN COLLIS

Dr. John Collis passed away Thursday August 19, 2021 at the age of 84. He was born in Domianons Eurytaxia, Greece and came to the United States in 1948. Dr. Collis received his Bachelor of Science, Master of Business Administration, and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Kentucky and his Ph.D from The University of Iowa. He retired in 2017 as Professor Emeritus from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa where he was a Professor for over 30 years. He served as Dean of the College of Business, Director of the H.L. McLaughlin M.B.A. Program as well and a professor of Business Administration and Managerial Studies teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Collis also authored two books. Dr. Collis’ passion was teaching. He not only passed on his knowledge to his students, but also his love of learning. He spent whatever time was needed to make sure they succeeded. John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Helen Balafas Collis. He was the son of William and Olga Collis. He was predeceased by his brothers, Stanley and Gus Collis. Also surviving are his sister in laws, Eva Collis and Athena (George) Canavas, several nieces and nephews and extended family members. A Funeral Service will be held in St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Rd., Orange, CT Tuesday August 24th at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in East Side Cemetery, Woodbridge, CT.
