On May 11, 2024, Helen “Sally” Perkins DeGennaro, of Cheshire, and formerly of Woodbridge, Connecticut passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving children after a brief illness. Sally was born on April 5th, 1931 in New Haven, CT, daughter of the late William and Helen Wallace Perkins. Loving mother of Ann (Granddaughter Victoria (Sergio)) of Santa Ana, CA, Samuel (Laura) (Grandchildren Joseph & Jenna) of Cheshire, CT, Helen of Denver, CO and Ted (Yanela) (Grandchildren Carlos and Martin) of Guadalajara, Mexico. Predeceased by her son Billy, beloved niece Kristin Taurchini and sisters Nancy (Bo) Ridinger, Marian (Suzzie) Grey and Willa Hamilton – the “Perkins sisters”.
Sally was the loving aunt, grandmother, great-aunt and rock to all the families of the Perkins clan with numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who all relied on Aunt Sally for a smile, a shoulder to cry on, or the Red Sox score.
Sally attended Bates College in Lewiston, Maine before graduating from Albertus Magnus in New Haven. She was a proud member of the Garden Club of Woodbridge, editing the Weedpatch Newsletter for many years. She served on the Board of Directors of the Friends of Woodbridge Library and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Known as Mrs. D in the Hopkins School community, she worked at Hopkins for many years as an administrative assistant. She was a devoted parishioner of the Church of the Assumption in Woodbridge, CT.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a mass of Christian Burial at the Church of the Assumption, 81 Center Road in Woodbridge on Friday May 17th, at 12:00. Interment will follow immediately at St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford. There will be no calling hours.
