Affectionately known as Smoochie, AKA Smoochie Camoochie. She is survived by her companion, confidant, and her best friend, whom she referred to as “My Jerry” or “My Darling”.
Eesun was an extraordinary person, whose inner and outer beauty pervaded the lives of those who knew her, and individuals she came in contact with. To know her was a truly joyful experience, as her special gift was spreading the sunshine of her personality to others each, and every day of her life.
Eesun’s life began in Seoul City, South Korea. She worked for 25 years at the officer’s club at the American embassy. She was also a midwife, bringing many children into the world. She spent her days off visiting children at a local orphanage, giving them money, and ministering to their spiritual needs. Upon her arrival, they would yell out “Miss Ahn”, her maiden surname.
She came to America, gracing our shores around 1976. She met her future, and much beloved husband, Joseph Vanacore, at a luncheon hosted by her niece. It probably took all of five minutes to fall under her enchanting spell. Then, being besotted, and smitten, he had to marry her. They had a daughter, Holland, who died of crib death at approximately 3 months. This was a very painful subject that she chose to disclose very few details about. She and Joe enjoyed dancing together as often as they could, spending 33 enjoyable years together before he was called home.
God then chose to introduce a second Italian American into her life. Someone to pick up the slack and assist her in the elderly portion of her journey here. Her grace and inner beauty made each day a truly special occasion. Eesun was a fierce bocce ball player, avid dancer, party attendee, gym member, lover of fragrant flowers, and each and every child she came in contact with.
In her early years she attended the Presbyterian church, as well as Korean American Baptist, and Roman Catholic churches.
For those who knew and loved her, she will be sorely missed, as someone whose true beauty and effortless grace enchanted the lives of those around her. Though short in stature at 4’10”, her legacy will only loom large, and grow, as she leaves behind in her wake, a larger than life figure. May she rest in peace.
