Ernest A. Criscuolo Sr., 89, of Westbrook, entered into rest Dec. 28, 2017 at Gladeview Healthcare, Old Saybrook after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Marie Meriano Criscuolo for 63 years. Born in New Haven on March 12, 1928, he was the son of the late Paul J. and Carmel Piscitelli Criscuolo. He attended local schools and retired from the New Haven Board of Education as a head custodial engineer, working in several area schools. He was a former vice president of Local 287, AFL-CIO. He was formerly employed by Criscuolo’s Parking as an attendant as well as Federal Paper Board. He served in the US Navy from 1946 to 1948. He was a longtime communicant of the former St. Donato’s Church where he was a member of the Legion of Mary, an advisor to the CYO Youth Group and an usher for 20 years. A Fair Haven resident most of his life, he was active in civic affairs. He was a member of the Fair Haven Festival Committee, the Fair Haven Project Area Committee and a former member of the New Haven Blues and the Societa Castelvetere Sul Calore, Provence of Avellino, Italy. Most recently, he was a resident of Worthington Manor in Westbrook and a communicant of St. Mark the Evangelist Church in Westbrook. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the amazing caregivers at Gladeview, especially Katherine, Julie and the entire staff whose love and compassion made all the difference. He is survived by his beloved children, Maria (Kenneth) Cusano of Westbrook and Ernest A. Criscuolo Jr. of Boca Raton, FL.; his son in law, Dennis Powers Sr. of Guilford and his beloved grandchildren, Dennis Powers Jr., Kenneth and Christopher Cusano and his sisters in law, Marguerite Criscuolo of East Haven, Mary Criscuolo of North Haven and Eleanor Kaufman of Guilford. He was predeceased by his darling daughter, Joann C. Powers; his sister, Pasqualena Scilipote and four brothers, Michael, Mark A., Dominic W. and John Paul Criscuolo.
