Eufstratia Niki Papadopoulos, 82, of Clearwater Beach, FL, passed away peacefully at her home in Woodbridge, CT on November 30, 2023.
Born July 2, 1941 to Stamatios & Christina Lahaniatis, she was raised in Uncasville, CT. It was at Norwich Free Academy (class of 1959) where her passion for art developed. Niki met Nick, her beloved husband of 61 years, at her parent’s egg business, Trading Cove Poultry Farm. On October 25, 1959 Nick and Niki were married at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Norwich, CT. In 1963 they purchased Pizza House in New Haven, CT, which has remained family owned and a cornerstone of the community for over 50 years. A ceramic artist and avid art collector, for many years she owned and operated the Mud Gallery. Niki was a parishioner of St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, where she took great joy and passion in service from the early days on Dwight St and the Odyssey Greek Festival at Lighthouse Point Park to her many years as a volunteer of the Book & Icon store and member of the Interiors & Iconography Committees. Niki raised her family in faith and love. She was a phenomenal hostess and homemaker, often gathering friends and family at her homes in CT and FL. She loved to cook and care for her grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered as “everyone’s Yiayia”. Predeceased by her husband Nick, her sister Mary Stevens and her brother John, she is survived by her daughter Christine Alexiades, son Peter Papadopoulos, grandchildren Zena, Alexandra and Nicholas Alexiades, Nicholas Peter Papadopoulos, great granddaughters Amalia and Maria Bond and countless nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, December 6th from 4-7pm at St Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Rd, Orange CT. Funeral will be held at 11am on Thursday December 7th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Niki’s memory to Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church.
