EDWARD S. Basel Obituary

 

Edward S. Basel, 99, of East Haven, passed away May 9, 2023, in Yale New Haven Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Lillian Arabolos Basel. Born in New Haven on May 24, 1923, he was the son of the late William E. and Antiopi Peperidou Basel. He operated Basel's Greek Restaurant on State Street, New Haven, with his brother Louis, for more than 40 years until his retirement in 1987. He proudly served in the Pacific Theater as a Tech Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a faithful member of St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church and New Haven Chapter 98, Order of AHEPA. He is survived by his daughter Linda Kwet (Fred) and son William Basel (Andrea); sister Florence Barakis; four grandchildren, Daniel Kwet (Yla), Michael Kwet, Elena Almodovar (Miguel), and Ariana Lutfi (Nassib); three great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Louis Basel, and sister, Helen Faraclas.  Eddie was a gentle, loving soul, and a very smart man with a wonderful sense of humor who was loved by many.
Friends may call at St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Rd., Orange, Friday at 10 am, with the funeral service to follow at 11 am. Interment in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to St. Barbara Church Building Fund.
