Dolores Garcia Melendez, born on May 25, 1947, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, to Jose Garcia
Pizarro and Natividad Melendez Olano, passed away peacefully at the age of 78 on March 31,
2026, at 4:10 in the afternoon at Yale New Haven Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Dolores was raised in Barrio Breñas in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, where he developed strong roots
in family, culture, and community that would guide him throughout his life. He later built a life
centered on love, commitment, and hard work.
He shared a beautiful and enduring union with his beloved spouse, Lupe Davila Figueroa.
Together, they spent 55 years side by side, including 50 years of marriage—a testament to their
deep love, loyalty, and devotion.
Dolores was a proud and dedicated father to his three children: Leslie Ann Garcia, Stella Marie
Garcia, and Micheal Garcia. His legacy continues through his seven cherished grandchildren:
Benjamin Jenniel Tavarez Garcia, Lieannjie Enid Tavarez Garcia, Derek Omar Torres Garcia,
Onix Yarell Garcia, Jelianis Marie Torres Garcia, Adrian Yerien Garcia, and Zairé Victoria Garcia.
He took great joy in his role as a grandfather, often spending time with them, sharing laughter,
music, and playfully giving “cocotazos,” moments they will forever hold close to their hearts.
He attended Intermedia Angel Sandín Martinez and went on to dedicate 25 years of service as
a Maintenance Engineer at the Hyatt Dorado Beach Hotel. His strong work ethic and
commitment left a lasting impression on those he worked with. After retirement, Dolores
enjoyed a slower pace of life, often listening to music and spending meaningful time with his
family.
In his later years, he moved to New Haven, Connecticut, where he continued to be surrounded
by loved ones. Dolores will be remembered for his warmth, humor, dedication to family, and the
simple joys he brought into everyday life.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and cherished memories that will live on in all who
knew him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Dolores’s family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, April 6th from 6:00pm to 7:00pm
at Good Shepherd Ministries, 73 Fresh Meadow Rd, West Haven. A funeral service will take
place at the church at 7:00 pm
