Dino L. Zaino Obituary

Dino Luigi Zaino died on November 14, 2024 at the age of 91 years. Dino was a long time
resident of Hamden, and spent his last years at the Arizona State Veterans Home in Tucson,
Arizona. Dino was born on March 11, 1933, in New Haven to Catello and Olympia (Gabello) Zaino. In
addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Maria Sophia Iagrossi (Zaino), his
brothers Gene, Angelo, Frank and Robert Zaino. He is survived by his brother Joseph, Children:
Anthony D. Zaino, Pamela Zaino Kountz, Maria Zaino Miller. Grandchildren: Dakota Scibilia,
Fox Miller and Requel Miller. Along with many loving nieces and nephews, and countless
friends. Dino served as Corporal 558th MP Co. in the U.S. Army 1953-1955, serving in Korea. After the
Army, 1956, Dino opened his business “Dino’s” barber shop on Whitney Ave. in Mt. Carmel.
After several years, “Dino’s” barber shop moved just up the street and became “Dino’s Salon for Men”. Dino competed and won awards in International, National and State hair styling
competitions, became a hair styling competition judge and then a Guest Artist within the hair
cutting industry during the 1970’s. Dino continued cutting hair in Hamden until 2018.
Dino loved Opera, Boston Red Sox “Ted Williams” and Magic. He was a very social, generous
and fun-loving person. He loved helping others in many ways. Those that knew Dino knew he
was always cheerful with a positive attitude. And, he would always have a good joke for the day.
A Memorial Mass will be held February 28 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 2819 Whitney Ave., Hamden, CT. Interment to follow at Saint Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven, CT.
