Delores Annette Fortes, 94, of Hamden passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 22nd at Yale New Haven Hospital with family at her side. She was born on January 22, 1930 to the late Alonzo and Hazel Jones. She was the beloved wife of Antonio Joseph Fortes who predeceased her in March of 1998.
She worked for many years in New Haven, in soles going back to the old Shartenberg’s Department Store, Lerners, Unique Boutique and retired from Beauty Plus. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and attending outdoor events with her friends in downtown Hamden. She was a devout member of Grace & St. John’s Episcopal Church. A woman with a gentle and warm personality, she was known for never forgetting a birthday, anniversary, Mother or Father’s Day celebration of any of her family or friends. You could always be sure to receive a card and/or phone call.
Mother of Stephan Fortes (Edith) and Lisa Harrell (the late Walter Harrell). Grandmother of Tiffany Eager (David) and
Kecia Smith and great grandmother of Motley Epps. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
The visiting hours will be on Sunday, June 30th from 3:30 to 4:30 at Celentano Funeral Home, at 424 Elm Street, New Haven. The funeral will be held on Monday, July 1st, at 11 A.M. at Grace & St. John’s Episcopal Church at 2927 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven. This will be followed by a repast at Grace and St. John’s Episcopal Church.
