Anna Adamovich Obituary

Anna DeVito Adamovich (98) of Woodbridge, CT, died peacefully on March 24th 2022 surrounded by her loving family.  She was also known as Nina, Gram, Aunt T’Anna, and Mrs. A.

She was born July 27, 1923, to Clorinda Mastroianni and Gelsomino “James” DeVito.  She was the fifth of ten children and one of the beloved DeVito sisters of Woodbridge.  She attended WH Warner, Hill House High and graduated from Boardman Trade School.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, and all nine of her siblings and their spouses -- Regalina DeVito DeRosa (Bill), Rosario “Ray” DeVito (Betty), Libby DeVito Signore (Ralph), Frank DeVito (Clara), Joseph DeVito (Evelyn), Carmela DeVito, Anthony “Chick” DeVito (Evie), Dorothy “Dottie” DeVito Malerba (Bob), and Dolores “Babe” DeVito Pavlovich (Billy).

Anna married the love of her life, John Adamovich (August 1918 – December 1980) in October 1946 and they loved to travel.  Anna would always accompany John across the country and to Canada for his many bowling tournaments.

She was a loving mother to and is survived by her two children -- Carolyn Rae Bernardo (Richard) of Marlborough, CT, and John Tychon Adamovich (Kathy Smith) of Woodbridge, CT.

She is also survived by her 3 grandchildren – Kimberly Adamovich Nunes (Telmo), John Michael Adamovich (Danielle Norris) and Kevin D. Anthony Adamovich, her three great grandchildren – Dillon, Sarah, and Emma as well as 24 nieces and nephews.

After John’s death Anna continued her love of travel visiting relatives in California, Ohio, South Carolina, Florida, New Orleans, Rhode Island, New York and Italy.  Every summer she and her best friend Eleanor would travel the eastern seacoast from Cape Cod to Bar Harbor Maine to enjoy their favorite lobster dish.

Anna was the first Teacher Assistant in the State of Connecticut working in the Woodbridge school system for over thirty years and had many of her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren in her classes.  Her grandchildren were the third generation going through the Woodbridge School system. She was awarded many certificates of appreciation from the Town of Woodbridge and the RSVP of Southern Central Connecticut in recognition of her exemplary volunteer service and valuable contributions benefiting the community.

An avid Yankee and UConn Huskies woman’s basketball fan, she loved to watch her favorite team play.  She was known to hush anyone talking during the games. She also loved to go on the family bus trips to Yankee Stadium every summer.

Anna was a life-long parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Woodbridge and the Lady’s Guild.  She was a member of the Woodbridge Gazebo Committee, former President of the Woodbridge Parents Teachers Association, member of the Women of Woodbridge and a longtime member of the Woodbridge Senior Center where she served on the Advisory Board.  She loved participating in the lunch program collecting money at the door and monthly restaurant lunches as well as the Thursday craft group.

Anna will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, loving heart and waving hand.

The family would like to give a special thank you to her niece Joan for her compassion, comforting nature and care during her illness.
