Andrew M DiPietro Jr Obituary

Andrew M. DiPietro, Jr. , 84, died on June 16, 2017 at the VA Hospital in West Haven, CT.

Andy graduated from The Taft School in 1950, St. Lawrence University in 1954 (where he cofounded an a cappella singing group, known as “The Saints”), and received his J.D. from Cornell Law School in 1961. He was a Korean War Veteran, having served four years as a Lieutenant in the Military Police Corps in Japan and Korea. After practicing law for 45 years as a nationally recognized bankruptcy and reorganization specialist, he retired in 2006. A former member of the New Haven County, Connecticut and American Bar Associations and the American Bankruptcy Institute, he was also an author and lecturer on bankruptcy law and for many years was a senior editor of the Connecticut Bar Journal. He handled some of the biggest bankruptcy reorganizations in Connecticut, cases in other states, and hundreds of pro-bono cases.

Andy was a lifetime member of the Commercial Law League of America, serving as past chairman of the New England region and as chair of many national committees and received its highest award, The President’s Cup.

He was past president of the New Haven Rotary Club and was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship. Andy was a member and past president of the Pine Orchard Yacht and Country Club, where he enjoyed tennis and boating.  He was also a member of The Quinnipiac Club.

Always ready with a joke, quick repartee, double entendre, and a wry quip, Andy was the life of any party. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, classical music, crossword puzzles, books, and being with his many friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer Hodgins, his three sons, David DiPietro (Stephanie), Michael DiPietro (Christina), and Mathew DiPietro, and his stepdaughter Amy Hodgins (Luis).  He also leaves his grandchildren Daniel, Michael, Thomas, Olivia, Marc, Cayden, and Charlotte.  He is also survived by his sister Diana DiPietro and her son, Christopher Bennet.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.  Donations may be made to the VA CT Health Care System, Attn: Voluntary Service, 950 Campbell Ave., West Haven, CT, 06516.
