Andrea Jackson-Brooks passed away peacefully Oct. 15, 2023. She was born in Newport, RI and eventually moved to New Haven. Andrea was a Nurse and a Certified Public Manager. More recently she was the Executive Assistant to Mayor John DeStefano. She was extremely involved in organizations and activities that aimed to better the lives of New Haven residents and improve the image of the city. She served as the President of the Hill Health Center here in New Haven, which provided low cost health care services to those who could not otherwise afford it. Andrea served as a State Representative from the 95th District, she was involved in politics for many years, serving on her ward committee and on the Democratic Town Committee for years. She was then elected to the Democratic State Central Committee from the 10th Senatorial District. Her work has focused around involving many more people in the political process by encouraging people to vote. She was also a member of the Creative Arts Workshop, the Gateway College Advisory Commission, the Community Action Fuel Bank, the United Way, the Board of Directors of the Festival of Arts and Ideas, the National Conference of Negro Women, the Hill Central Park Committee and a former member of Latino Youth Development. Ms. Jackson-Brooks was also a Trustee for St. Matthew’s Unison Free Will Baptist Church. She served her community in many others ways not mentioned here, but in her daily work for the City of New Haven and in all her outside activities, she exemplified the public servant and the spirit of volunteerism.
A visitation will be held on Monday Oct 23rd from 10-11 AM in St. Matthew’s UFW Baptist Church, 400 Dixwell Ave., New Haven followed by a funeral service at 11:00. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery. The Celentano Funeral Home is caring for Andrea’s arrangements.
