Iola Valentino Tartaglione, 90, of 212 Shore Rd., Westerly, R.I., formerly of Hamden, died peacefully at home July 11, 2008. She was the widow of Ralph Tartaglione. Born in New Haven Oct. 3, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Julio Valentini & Norina Zandri Branchini. She was a resident of Hamden for 55 years until moving to Westerly in 1999 to live with her daughter. Mrs. Tartaglione was a graduate of Hillhouse High School, Class of 1934. She worked in Fine Jewelry for Macy's - New Haven for many years. After achieving Certified Gemologist status through the Gemological Institute of America, she joined the appraisal department of Michael's Jewelers in New Haven where she worked until retirement. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Grande of Westerly; her son, Ralph Tartaglione and his wife, Rev. Debra Haffner of Norwalk; two grandchildren, Gregory Tartaglione of Norwalk & Alyssa Tartaglione of New York City; two sisters, Lydia Antognette of Ansonia & Mary Geary of Madison; and many nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Alice Branchini. Friends are invited to attend funeral services in The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven Saturday, July 19th at 11:00 AM. Calling hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The Westerly Public Library, Broad St., Westerly, R.I. 02891; The Westerly-Pawcatuck YMCA, 95 High St., Westerly, R.I. 02891, which gave her joy in life; to Visiting Nurse Services, 14 Woodruff Avenue, Suite 7, Narragansett, R.I. 02882, and to Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 169 George St., Pawtucket, R.I. 02860 which gave her dignity in death.
