Serge Edward Reynolds, 80, entered eternal rest on Oct.19, 2017. Serge was born in New York City on April 6th, 1937 to the late Jule Willams-Reynolds and Charles Reynolds, a Trinidad native. With the unfortunate passing of his mother, when Serge was only 4 years old, he was raised by his beloved grandmother, the late Martha Williams, who Serge affectionately named, “Grams”. Serge was raised in the South Bronx and educated in the New York City School System. Once he graduated high school, he made the audacious decision to join the United States Navy. Serge served our country, honorably, during the Korean War.

Upon Serge's return to the States, he held several positions. Serge was a distributer for Columbia Records, which might attest for his great taste in music! Serge was a director for the Fair Haven Neighborhood Corporation. Serge also worked with Winchester Firearms, Marlin Firearms and Mossberg Firearms. Serge worked at Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut as a submarine welder. But perhaps his favorite job, the job Serge would grow to love and eventually retire from, was his position as a Correctional Officer with the Connecticut Department of Corrections. “Cool Pop”, as he was admiringly named (or titled), was respected by Officers and inmates alike. He ran a tight ship, but did it with patience and style; he was COOL!

Although a tough man at times, nothing could soften Serge's heart more than Jimmie Amanda Margorie Celestine Pullen. With his West Indian fire and New York City flare, Serge woo'd this sweet southern belle and they wed in 1961. From this union were born three beautiful children: Richard (Monte), Edward (Page) and Jule. Jimmie was a blessing to Serge in so many ways, but perhaps her influence to push him toward Christ was the greatest blessing he'd receive. Serge accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost as a dedicated member and deacon of Rehoboth Church of God in Christ (Bridgeport, CT). Serge would tell of God's grace and saving power whenever he testified. With tears flowing from his eyes, Serge would proudly sing his favorite song, “Every time I turn around, the Lord keeps blessing me!”

Jimmie and Serge left their mark with their family. They were known to travel the exotic location of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where they would often vacation with many family members. They would go on to share memories with their children and grandchildren and promised we'd all go as a family again.

Although grieving the patriarch of our family, we take peace in knowing he is resting in the arms of our Heavenly Father and finally with his beloved “Jim Bo Bim” again. Serge was preceded in death by the love of his life, Jimmie Amanda and son, Serge “Pook” Reynolds. Serge leaves to cherish his memory his two sons (both Ordained Ministers in the Church of God in Christ) Elder Richard “Monte” (Pat) Reynolds of New Haven, Ct.; Elder E. Page (Diane) Reynolds of Memphis, TN., daughter Jule Reynolds-Waters; 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; special niece Jewel Williams-McCollin of Jensen Beach, FL via New York City; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Thought from the family: At family gatherings, right after we thanked God for our bounty, Dad would raise his glass (filled with apple cider), preparing to toast with his family and would say these words: “I am a rich man because the Lord has blessed me a with a healthy and loving family...” and until we meet again, Cheers Pop Pop!

Funeral services will be held in Rehoboth Church of God on Christ, 72 Beardsley St., Bridgeport Friday from  6:00 to 8:00 pm. The wake will precede the service from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven
