Ernestyne Diggs Killings, age 101, better known as “Auntie”, went from Home to Glory on May 6, 2015 at The Grimes Center in New Haven. Born in Milford on July 25, 1913, she was the daughter of the late James Albert and Bessie Wyatt Diggs. She was educated in the New Haven school system and attended design school in Detroit where she studied dressmaking. She loved to sew and worked at American Linen before her retirement. As a child, she attended Varick A.M.E. Zion Church, them became a committed member of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven where she became a member of the Third Order of St. Dominic. Auntie loved to travel and went on many pilgrimages with her church family. She came from a loving home and lived on Bristol Street for over 50 years. She extended that love into her community where she was recognized and respected. On the occasion of her 100th birthday, she received a citation from the Connecticut General Assembly. The oldest of three children, Ernestyne had no children of her own but considered her nieces and nephews to be her own. She was their second mother. She leaves to mourn her passing a niece, Linda Diggs of Modesto, CA.; five nephews, Barry (Angel) Diggs Sr. and Daryl (Joyce) Diggs, both of Hamden, Rodney (Beverly) Diggs Sr. of West Haven, Kevin H. Diggs and Michael Diggs, both of New Haven; a special God-daughter, Ernestine Fauntleroy of Virginia; several grand and great nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by two brothers, Elmer and Henry Diggs and her sister in law, Marjorie H. Diggs.

Funeral from The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven Tuesday morning at 9:30. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, 5 Hillhouse Ave. at 10:00. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the funeral from 8:30 to 9:30. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
