Mary Pignataro Abt, 83, of Spring Valley Road, Woodbridge, passed away June 25, 2010 in Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the widow of Deputy Chief Paul V. Abt, NHFD (ret.) Mrs. Abt was born in New Haven July 4, 1926, daughter of the late Gregorio "Jerry" and Lena Testa Pignataro. She attended St. Mary of the Springs College in Ohio and graduated from Annhurst College in South Woodstock, CT. She earned her Master's Degree and Sixth Year Certificate at So. Conn. State University. She was an elementary school teacher in the New Haven Schools System, teaching at Winchester and Davis St. Schools. Prior to that, she taught at St. Aedan's School and was a member of St. Aedan's Ladies Eucharistic League. She will be remembered for how much she loved her family and how much they loved her. She is survived by one son, Gregory D. (Corinne) Abt of Coto DeCaza, CA.; two daughters, Mary Ellen (William Degen) McDonald of Niceville, FL. and Judy (Paul) Iannone of Cheshire; a brother, Donald M. Pignataro of Woodbridge and four grandchildren, William Campion, Paul Iannone, Brittany & Kelly Abt. Funeral from The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven Wednesday, June 30th at 10:20. Mass in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Center Road, Woodbridge at 11:00. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the funeral from 8:30 to 10:15. Interment will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
