Lucian J. Grillo, 91, formally of 15 Alfred St., New Haven died July 30, 2009 in Talmadge Park, East Haven. He was the husband of the late Philomena M. Acampora Grillo. Born in Winchester, CT. Jan. 2, 1918, he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Lucitta Adorno Grillo. He worked as a mattress maker for nearly 40 years and later worked as a paint salesman. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a devoted member of St. Bernadette's Church. As a member of the Men's Club, he served as an usher and volunteered his time and energy on countless committees, feeding the homeless monthly and working on the annual Church Carnival. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Holy Family Retreat League, making over 50 retreats at the Holy Family Passionist Retreat Center in West Hartford. He was also an avid roller skater, golfer and bowler. He is survived by two daughters, Deborah Grillo Trelewicz and her husband, Robert of North Haven, Bernice Grillo Monaco and her husband, Bob of New Haven; five grandchildren, Marc & Jeff Trelewicz, Nicole, Joseph & Melissa Monaco; and a great grandson, Brodie Trahan. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Grillo and three sisters, Grace Della Rocco, Natalie Gallagher and Josephine Falzone. Friends may call at The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven Sunday from 4 to 7 pm and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bernadette's Church, 385 Townsend Ave. Monday, Aug. 3rd at 10:00.
