Alice Pina Hopwood, 91, of 51 Antrim St., West Haven, passed away March 29, 2009 in Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the widow of Adolph C. "Buster" Hopwood. Mrs. Hopwood was born in New Haven Nov. 23, 1917, daughter of the late John and Albertina Pina Araujo. She was the former proprietor of the Flamingo Bar and Grille on Grand Ave. and Del's Package Store on Howard Ave. in New Haven. She was a member of St. Ann's Guild for many years. She is survived by a son, Cleveland Hopwood of Houston, TX.; a daughter, Carol Hopwood Curtis of West Haven; a sister, Louise Giles of New Haven; 3 grandchildren, Tonya Bernard & Nicole Decuir, both of Texas and Donald Hopwood of West Haven; 7 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; and many step grandchildren & great grandchildren. She was predeceased by four brothers, Condence (Frank) Pina Araujo, Albert, Joseph and Arthur (Toto) Pina; and two sisters, Felizmena Fernandes and Philomena Joseph.
Friends may call at The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven Friday from 5 to 8 pm and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Aedan's Church Saturday, April 4th at 10:00. Interment in Beaverdale. Contributions may be made to St. Aedan's School, 351 McKinley Ave., New Haven, CT 06515 or to the charity of one's choice.
