Information

COFRANCESCO, ANNA
Name:
COFRANCESCO, ANNA
Date of Death:
Jan 10, 2013
Location of Service:
Celentano Funeral Home - New Haven

Anna Cofrancesco, 86, of New Haven died Jan. 10, 2012. She was the wife of the late Anthony Cofrancesco.  Mrs. Cofrancesco was born in New Haven Jan. 2, 1927, daughter of the late Matteo and Antoinetta Minichino Carrano, the owners of Carrano’s Market, a fruit market on Chapel St. in New Haven. After attending local schools, she worked as a bookkeeper for Yale Motor Lines in West Haven. She married Anthony Cofrancesco, a Wooster Square neighbor, whose family owned Alton Truck Body & Trailer Service on Nov. 13, 1950 in St. Michael’s Church. She continued to work until she became pregnant with her first child. Such was her devotion to the Virgin Mary that , when she delivered a healthy baby after a long period of bed rest during her high risk pregnancy, she named her daughter Mary. This devotion to Our Lady lasted until the day she died. After Anna’s youngest child entered high school, she began working in the Religion Resource Center at St. Mary’s High School in New Haven where the Post-Vatican II Dominican Sisters taught her a thing or two about Catholicism. When St. Mary’s closed, she took a position as a cataloguer in the library at the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities, where she worked until her retirement. In retirement, she volunteered at her daughter’s law office, once again keeping the books, answering phones and greeting clients. Anna was a woman of her time, immersing herself, as did many women of her generation, in her role as a wife, mother, homemaker, volunteer, carpool mom, Cub Scout den mother, and later, becoming the head of just about every organization she joined, from the Mother’s Club and the St. Anne Society of St. Michael’s Church to St. Mary’s Mother’s Club. Anna’s loyalty to her family, her compassion and sensitivity for others less fortunate, and her strength and determination in the face of adversity, are the things that we will always remember about her. She is survived by one son, Frank (Carmella) Cofrancesco; two daughters, Mary P. and Attorney Patricia A. Cofrancesco; three cherished grandchildren, Rene, Anthony & Robert Cofrancesco who enjoyed visiting with her on Saturday afternoons, shaking hands and making finger tracings; one brother, Frank Carrano; three sisters, Yolanda D’Amato, Theresa Argento and Mary DePino. She was predeceased by two sisters, Louise Sanseverino and Vincenza Criscuolo. Many thanks to the caregivers who allowed Anna to remain in her home, and to Dr. Marc Perrotti and his staff for their compassion for the elderly. You’re “home” Mom with your family. Rest in blissful peace. Funeral from The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven Monday, Jan. 14th at 10:45. Mass in St. Bernadette’s Church, 385 Townsend Ave. at 11:30. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 5 to 8 pm. Interment in East Lawn Cemetery. Contributions in Anna’s name may be made to The Fr. McGivney Cancer Center, 1450 Chapel St., New Haven, CT 06511.

Condolence Messages

#1 Maureen Lillis 2013-01-15 08:35 My prayers and condolences go out to the family of Anna Cofrancesco. Mrs. Cofrancesco, as I knew her in St. Mary's High School, was the highlight of my days. Always a smile on her face and kind word to say. She made Religion Resource Center my favorite "mod".

Rest in peace, Mrs. Cofrancesco. Until we meet again someday.
